Concordia Lutheran Church is located in the North Center neighborhood at the corner of Byron and Seeley (one block south of Irving Park Rd, one block west of Damen Ave.). Pastor Zook
Reverend Nicholas J. Zook has served as our pastor since 1981. He brings a commitment to the ministry of the church that emphasizes the importance of worship in our lives and also engages us in service to the community around us. Believing firmly in the words of the eucharistic dismissal, "Go in peace, serve the Lord," Pastor Zook emphasizes the dynamic of finding spiritual peace and nurturing in the worship while being challenged to practice one's faith through service and ministry in the community. Adam Varner
Adam Varner is Concordia’s full-time vicar.  His role is comprised of many ministry areas in preparation for his future work as a pastor.  Born and raised in Austin, TX, Adam moved to the Northeast for college, and then worked for several years in Washington, DC.  He attended seminary at the University of Chicago Divinity School and completed his seminary studies in June 2013 and received his Masters of Divinity degree.  Adam’s office is in the Resource Center at the Whipple campus (3300 N. Reverend Arnold O. Pierson is Director of Church Relations. Most recently, Arnie served as the VP for the Mission Investment Fund of the ELCA where he grew its assets from $160M to more than $500M. Before that, Arnie served as pastor for several Chicagoland and Indiana congregations. In his role at Concordia, Arnie helps connect Concordia Place with other congregations and church resources. Jeri Higgins
Jeri Higgins is the administrative assistant for the church. Jeri prepares materials for Sunday worship and membership communications. She also works with the pastor and church volunteers to develop Sunday School and Confirmation materials, an outreach program, volunteer activities and membership support.  Jeri has 19 years of administrative and technical experience and is a member of Concordia. Lana Antic serves as the church’s Organist & Choir Director.  Enjoying a love of music from an early age, Lana graduated from Andrews University, Michigan with a Masters Degree in Music majoring in organ performance.  She has served as a teacher, organist, music and choir director, conducting adult, children’s and chimes choirs.  Lana can be reached via the church office at 773-281-1225.
Maureen A. Swanson, RN, BSN, FCN,  joined Concordia Lutheran Church and Concordia Place in June 2007 as part of the continuum of care of Advocate Health Care through their Parish Nurse Program.  She is a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Villa Park and serves on its Wellness Committee. Her nursing experience has included Public Health in DuPage County, Maternal Child Nursing at Central DuPage and Illinois Masonic Hospitals, Surgical Nursing at Elmhurst Hospital and Parish Nursing at St Paul Lutheran Church in Denver, Colorado. As parish nurse for both Concordia Lutheran Church, Concordia Place, and the communities they serve, Maureen provides whole person health promotion and disease prevention services with an emphasis on spiritual care.  Maureen's parish nurse role includes integrator of faith and health, health educator, personal health counselor, referral agent, developer of support groups, educator of volunteers, and health advocate. Brenda Swartz is President and CEO of Concordia Place. Brenda is very dedicated and committed to the mission of Concordia Place. Before coming to Concordia in 2003, Brenda worked in the technology industry for 17 years for companies such as Accenture, Unisys, and TenFold. Her leadership experience in management, client relations, and staff development have been easily leveraged to her role at Concordia.  Brenda is responsible for financial viability, strategic planning, external relations and representing Concordia to elected officials and community, civic, and business leaders. Kiki Collias, Senior Director of Programming for Concordia Place, began as the director of the first Concordia Child Care Center in 1984. It was at that point that Kiki took the Child Care Center through its first expansion--from an after-school program for school-age children to include preschool for younger children. She has seen growing responsibilities with the program expansion, managing the licensing and finances for the Concordia Child Care Center to the entire Concordia Place organization. Kiki has been successful in creating a Center that is accredited to its highest level, financially stable, and has highly qualified staff with minimal turnover. As Children’s Program Director, Kiki oversees the children’s programs at both the Whipple and Seeley children’s centers. Flora Calabrese is Community Programs Director for Concordia Place. Flora holds a BA in Education from DePaul University and has completed graduate work towards her MFA at Columbia College. She most recently was co-administrator at the Chicago Waldorf School where she also served as Events Coordinator and Communications & Marketing Director for the past eight years. Prior to Waldorf, Flora put her entrepreneurial skills to work as co-owner of an organic foods business, as a doula & childbirth educator and as publisher/editor of a magazine. Flora is responsible for the program development and oversight of our teen leadership, senior wellness, and adult learning programs. This includes enrollment, marketing, cultivating relations with community and partner organizations, financial oversight, and securing program funding.
