Concordia Place is a non-profit organization
that believes in creating involved communities where all of
our neighbors can... gather, learn & grow.

Concordia Place is a community outreach ministry of
Concordia Lutheran Church and its members.

Concordia Lutheran Church has expanded its award-winning, community directed Full-Day Preschool, After School and Full-Day Summer Camp (based at 3855 N. Seeley) to include the new Concordia Place, a child care and community center (3300 N. Whipple).

With two sites, we will reach even more families, and offer other needed services at the new facility. We are making incredible progress, thanks to the talents and commitment of volunteers, local residents and other supporters.

There is a growing sense of enthusiasm as we continue to develop new ministry for the Avondale community.

Senior Wellness Programming

Friendly Visitors
Our Friendly Visitors program continues to grow in large part due to our wonderful volunteers who enable us to fulfill our program mission of helping seniors remain independent and in their homes. Many thanks to Concordia Church members Carol, Jack, Kathy, and Mary-Ann for their dedicated ongoing work. We receive many compliments regarding our superb volunteers and their kindness.

We are getting more and more inquiries about our program as we broaden our relations with other senior service organizations. Translation: we can always use more volunteers! Are you available to transport a senior during the weekday? Do you have friends or relatives who might enjoy volunteering?  Contact Pam at 773-463-1600 ext. 423 if you are interested. You can really make a difference in someone’s life!

Engaging Youth Leadership Panel
On April 11th, the work of our innovative teen program was recognized citywide! Our Teen Counselor, Gwyn Siebert was invited to be a panelist on the Engaging Youth in Leadership panel hosted by Loyola University at their Loop Campus offered through Loyola’s Center for Experiential Learning department.  Gwyn was one of seven panelists with over 60 audience members. Organizations represented included: About Face Theater, Girl Scouts, Gary Comer Youth Center, Posse Foundation, Mikva Challenge and Umoja Student Development Corporation. We were thrilled to be included in this group. The topics focused on a multitude of issues involved in defining, developing, and delivering leadership opportunities for teens in a variety of settings. The panel explored the role social justice plays in youth empowerment and leadership projects and activities carried out by the teens in the Chicago community.

Some highlights of the evening were panelists explaining their approaches to leadership through ecology and social entrepreneurship by using direct service learning activities. Gwyn explained our Emerging Leader program evaluation techniques and assessment tools that are implemented throughout our various program components - Internships and the Emerging Leaders. She also shared her views on acknowledging that the teens are the greatest resource our program has to offer for ourselves, the community and the future!

Mark your calendars for the Emerging Leaders teen program.

Saturday, May 19th - 8:00AM
The Seeley Campus is undergoing a 3 Phase play lot renovation project to update the Play lot so that it challenges and can accommodate children ages 2-12.  We will complete Phase 2 on Saturday, May 19th.

If you are able to volunteer for Phase 2 Play lot Installation at the Seeley Site please contact Kiki kcollias@concordiaplace.orgor Amber  Roberts aroberts@concordiaplace.org.  It’s a great way to have give back to the community while meeting other Concordia families. Opportunities Just for You

We understand that each person has unique talents and interests. We work with each volunteer - or groups of volunteers - so you can have a meaningful volunteer experience and make a difference.

Whether you enjoy children, technology, physical work, helping organize, or talking with people, we have opportunities that we can customize to your schedule. Many parents, staff, and church members volunteered to help at our booth at four summer festivals. And—don’t forget all those who keep our building and grounds safe and beautiful.
