Mission Statement

January 30, 2000

As members of Concordia Lutheran Church we proclaim ourselves to be part of God's family. We see the sacrament of Holy Baptism as the means by which we have been named sisters and brothers in Christ. Through the sacrament of Holy Communion we continue to be nourished in our growing relationships to God our Father and to each other at a meal in God's presence. Our worship celebrates these relationships through the gathering of everyone in praying, singing, offering of money and talents, communing at the Lord's table and participating in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ through the liturgies of the Church Year. In our worship together, we confess that God has revealed himself to be for us in the cross of Christ.

We understand ourselves to be called to serve and to witness to our faith in Jesus Christ in our Community. We believe the doors of our church should be open to all; we invite and make welcome people of every age, race and condition by offering worship, fellowship and programs that meet the needs of children and adults. We serve the community by offering after-school care for children of working parents, providing early childhood education and full day care. We consider ourselves partners in service with other churches in our community; a member church of the Common Pantry for emergency needs and joining our neighboring churches and Lutheran General Hospital in a cooperative ministry of health care through the Parish Nurse program.

We confess our need to grow in understanding God, each other and our community. We place priority on Christian education, by which means the Holy Spirit continues to enlighten and guide us. We offer an early childhood education program, Sunday nursery school, Sunday school, an adult forum, Bible classes, and new member classes. We seek to learn more of the needs of our community by increasing our dialogue with our neighbors and with other churches. We seek to grow in service and witness to the people around us by expanding our programs for children and by offering new programs of Adult Care and Teen Youth.

We recognize ourselves as part of the larger Church, sharing in her mission to proclaim and live out Christ's love for the world. We participate by committing a part of our resources to the ministry of the whole Church through benevolences. We share in the service of the Church on behalf of the poor, the hungry and those who are oppressed through our offerings to World Hunger Relief. In partnership with God's people throughout the world, we are the Body of Christ, heralding the gospel to all people through our prayers, pledges and actions. Through our Baptism, we are God's people, growing together in worship, fellowship, learning and service, until that day Christ returns to rule as Lord of all.
