Music at Concordia

What's in a Name?
Many of Concordia's musical ensembles have a new look and sound this year, therefore they each need their own name. The Concordia Music Ministry will have four different groups contributing to the weekly worship services this year: the Cherub Choir, the Kamarata, the Chancel Choir, the Senior Choir, and the Of Note.

Children’s Choir
The Sunday School includes two different groups this year. The first, the Cherub Choir includes children in grades Kindergarten through 2nd grade and meets at the end of the Sunday School Session. The second, the Kamarata includes children in grades 3 through 7 and meets directly after worship.

Children’s Choir Rehearsal
The Kamarata begins rehearsals in September (before Sunday School sessions begin) so that they can introduce the theme for the year. The Kamarata will sing on Homecoming Sunday.

When either Sunday School group is scheduled to sing for a worship service, children should arrive 30 minutes ahead of time to put on their robes and to warm up their anthem. Parents will be needed to assist with the robing of the choir members. Watch for emails to request parental assistance.

Adult Choir
The Chancel Choir is Concordia's newest adult choir to include the treble voices of soprano and alto. This fall the Chancel Choir will play a role in the worship service by singing anthems and providing enhancement to the hymns of the worship service. This choral ensemble will sing 2-3 Sundays a month, and rehearsals begin the first week of September at 9:00am. Tenors and basses from the Senior Choir will join the Chancel Choir on festival Sundays. Anyone who is interested in joining the Chancel Choir, please contact Adam Johnson at asj125@hotmail.com.

The Senior Choir will continue to include all voices of soprano, alto, tenor and bass and will sing for major festivals of the church year. The choir will rehearse on the first Sunday of the month and other rehearsals as announced in the choir area in the front of the church. We always welcome new members to the choir. Interested singers please contact Adam Johnson at asj125@hotmail.com.

Of Note
Concordia's orchestra, Of Note, meets every other Tuesday evening and other selected days. If you have an instrument in your closet that you have been longing to play or know someone who would like to join us, please contact Adam Johnson at asj125@hotmail.com.

Concerts
Homecoming Sunday Concert - September 14th

Of Note joined Kamarata in giving our fall season a festive start with a Homecoming Sunday Concert. Of Note performed outside in front of the church where everyone gathered at cafe tables to enjoy music with coffee and refreshments. The music featured classical and hymn favorites, as well as (among others) guest artist Mickey on the tuba.

Advent Concert
An Advent Concert was held on December 7th, at 3:00pm and featuree a dessert buffet, available during the concert. Various favorite Advent and Christmas music were performed.

Concordia has been truly blessed with so many dedicated people of faith.

Over the last seven years the senior choir has grown from a handful of singers to now 13 strong, and the 'orchestra' includes 2 flutes, 2 clarinets, 1 viola, 1 guitar, and 1 timpanist with an occasional tuba or trumpet.

Feedback has been wonderful! Hardly a Sunday goes by when someone does not make a comment about the music. Believe it or not, that is really helpful to us making that "Joyful Noise" during worship. But also, and just as important, those of us who take our place in the front hear lots of singing from you in the congregation. That is what it is all about... singing to the Lord, and singing with and to each other in the community of faith.

— Linda Wiskow DeGuzman, Former Minister of Music
