Sunday School

Sunday Worship 10:00 AM

At Concordia, children's learning actually starts during Sunday worship services. Children are active participants during worhip with activities, such as children's sermons, children's music, and special celebrations. We offer bulletins geared for children so that the gostpel is presented in a way that children can better relate their faith to God's Word.

Note: Any special announcements regarding Sunday School classes can be found on the News & Events page.

Sunday School 11:00 AM

After worship service, children come together to sing songs and participate in lessons and activities in age-appropriate classes for ages 3 through 14.

We will place a special year-long emphasis on the Bible starting in the fall. Age appropriate Bibles will be used for each of our classes from Preschool through Upper Elementary. Children will hear the Bible stories, learn to use the bible and apply its teachings to their lives.

While the children are in Sunday School, parents can enjoy fellowship or participate in adult forum.

We are offering the following classes this year:

Pre-School for children 3 and 4, taught by new teachers Connie, Jeri and Melissa. A new curriculum called “FaithWeaver - My Bible Hugs” will give particular focus to the Bible stories of
creation and the early Biblical figures such as Adam and Eve, Cain and Abel, Noah, Abraham, and Isaac.

Kindergarten and 1st Grade is a new class grouping for children 5 and 6, separating out our early readers from preschool and elementary. This class will be taught by teachers Katie and a new teacher Sue. Again, we have a curriculum “FaithWeaver - My Bible Playground”.

Lower Elementary for children aged 7 through 10, taught by Kim. The curriculum for this class is called “God Prints”. Children will begin to learn about Joshua, Samuel, David, and Solomon and learn about God’s faithfulness. We need one
additional teacher for this class. If you are interested in teaching, please contact Pastor Zook at 773-281-1225 or nzook@concordia-chgo.org.

Upper Elementary for children 11 through 13, taught by Kathy and Sandra. This class will meet in the gym. We are using a new curriculum this year called “The Rock” by David Cook. They will learn about life lessons and how God can straighten things out.

Confirmation:

For children 14 and older, taught by Mark Neukirch & David Swartz. They will meet in the church library next to the gym. This class will be involved in confirmation preparations: learning about Baptism, The Gospel of Jesus Christ , the Bible and the significance of its different parts.

Children’s Choir:

A new school year and a new Sunday School Choir season are here, and with them come new opportunities to help our children develop one of their most precious gifts---the singing voice. The Sunday School Choir membership this year will include students in grades 2-6. Every Sunday, thereafter, the rehearsals will be after the 10:00 a.m. service. After the rehearsals the children will continue to their Sunday School classes.

The Children’s Choir will perform on selected Sundays throughout the year at the 10 AM worship service. We request that your children be present 25 minutes early (9:35 a.m.) for rehearsing and robing on the Sundays that they are scheduled to sing. Cooperation on the part of everyone is needed for our choir to sing its best.

Nativity of Our Lord

The Sunday School children told the Nativity Story through drama and song, on Sunday, December 20th. This year they told the story heralding the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem from a reading “The Birth of Jesus”, copyright by DramaShare.
